Handcrafted Cord Burning Box
I had these beautiful Cedar cord-burning boxes commissioned by a friend of mine. They're made by hand in rural New Brunswick, Canada, with care and attention and expert craftsmanship.
These boxes are designed in order to enact a cord-burning ceremony after your baby is born.
The process of burning the cord is safe and sterile, and can take up to 15-20 minutes to complete. This gives everyone in the family a chance to witness the release of your baby's beautiful placenta that nourished your baby so well. As the cord is burned, both ends are safely cauterized, which means there is no need to worry about sterile clamps, ties or sanitizing other instruments.
I've burned two out of my seven babies' cords, and I love this way of honouring the liminality of the transition from womb to world.
